 SEATTLE
FIREFIGHTERS CHALLENGE >>
On March 7 2004 we completed a grueling climb of Seattle's
Bank of America Tower. A stair climb of 69 floors or 1311 steps. Nineteen
Floors
higher
than
our Sky Tower and or 282 more steps. Not only is it ridiculously high,
we also wore full firefighting kit and breathing
apparatus sets. This meant we had to change air cylinders
on the 40th floor.
This year was the 12th year the event has been run, with over 750 firefighters
from 125 services within the USA attending. We were the first team
of firefighters from outside the United States to take part.
The event is run by the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society in Seattle. It
raises money for the cause and raises Leukaemia awareness. The Firefighters
challenge aimed to raise over $130,000 this year. Money that we
have raised for leukaemia will be given to the Leukaemia and Blood Foundation
of
New
Zealand.
SKY TOWER CHALLENGE >>
During autumn last year some of the team competed in
Firefighters section of the Auckland Sky Tower Challenge.
The event consists of a 200 metre run along Federal street then into the
base of the tower up 47 floors to the observation level.

Each day four New Zealand adults
and children are diagnosed with Leukaemia or a related blood disorder.
The Leukaemia & Blood Foundation is a
